Reimagining Temporary Dining

Beckworth Emporium - UK

What success did we aim to create?

Following the initial Covid-19 lockdown, Beckworth Emporium needed to safely reintroduce dining into its operations. The aim was to design a Covid-secure restaurant experience that aligned with the brand’s values, supported customer confidence, and delivered operational continuity—without compromising on ambience or quality.

How did we create the success?

As a retail design agency, we worked at speed and scale to develop a temporary restaurant solution that felt permanent in quality. Our strategic approach included:

  • Adaptive Reuse: The existing glasshouse events building was transformed into a Pop-up Garden Restaurant, providing ample space for social distancing while creating an indoor-outdoor dining atmosphere.
  • Cost-Efficient Design: We reused existing kitchen equipment and furniture, adding new temporary wall structures, privacy screens, and AstroTurf flooring to reduce cost and maximise ROI.
  • Brand Creation: We developed a completely new identity—The Garden Restaurant—distinct from the main restaurant, yet linked to Beckworth’s core brand.
  • Complete Graphics Package: We delivered signage, directional graphics, website banners, and menu designs to create a cohesive, branded customer experience.

What were the results?

The Garden Restaurant launched in less than six weeks and immediately attracted high customer adoption. With over 200 covers and nearly 800 sqm of space, it became one of the UK’s largest Covid-friendly restaurants. Customers embraced the new concept from day one, demonstrating strong brand loyalty and confidence.
