What success did we aim to create?
Coffee Island needed a complete retail brand transformation to strengthen its position in an increasingly competitive coffee market. The aim was to create a scalable and modular concept that elevated the customer experience, highlighted the brand’s unique selling points, and delivered strong store design outcomes across multiple formats and international markets.
How did we create the success?
As a specialist retail design agency, we developed a holistic concept centred on modularity, adaptability and clear customer journeys.
We split each store into three key zones:
- Coffee Grindery: An immersive retail space showcasing loose beans and brewing equipment, with simplified buying guidance and dark-tone shelving to enhance contrast and visibility.
- Espresso Bar: A bright, calm, lab-inspired space for focused customer decision-making, with intuitive menus and refined finishes.
- Seating and Collection: A vibrant, comfortable area with bold visuals and indoor-outdoor flexibility, especially tailored to the Cypriot market.
Design features included:
- Scalable fixture systems inspired by coffee plantations
- Consistent use of Coffee Island’s yellow flower motif
- Retail-integrated layouts promoting discovery and dwell time
- Carefully designed lighting for both impact and atmosphere
Each decision aligned with the brand’s retail marketing strategy, ecological ethos and commitment to quality.
What were the results?
The pilot launched in Drama, Greece in mid-2019. By year-end, 40 new stores were trading under the new concept, with reported revenue growth of 17–20% in refurbished locations. The new design supported increased footfall, stronger product visibility and enhanced brand experience, contributing to Coffee Island’s commercial recovery post-Covid and positioning it for further international growth.
